Structural Adhesives
Structural adhesives are high-performance bonding agents engineered to provide robust, load-bearing bonds between a wide variety of substrates. They are designed for applications where the integrity and longevity of the bond are critical, often replacing or supplementing mechanical fasteners in industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, and heavy manufacturing.
The 3 types of structural adhesives are as follows:
- Epoxy adhesives make up the largest segment of structural adhesives; offering excellent chemical resistance and the highest shear strength.
- Acrylic adhesives are the best choice for bonding to composites and metals with little to no surface preparation.
- Polyurethane adhesives are flexible when cured and, as a result, have high strength, superb impact and vibration resistance but low chemical and temperature resistance.
